Strange Music’s built an empire over the years. Tech N9ne alongside his partner Travis O’Guin essentially helped build the template for independent rappers on the grind. Since 1999, they’ve approached the industry on their own accord, both musically and business wise. However, they definitely faced their fair share of adversities while trying to make it. We recently spoke to Travis O’Guin for our latest episode of Holdin Court Podcast where he spoke on Tech N9ne’s come up, their struggles and more.
A successful businessman in the furniture and real estate industries, O’Guin recognized that Tech N9ne’s talent was being mismanaged and partnered up with him to form Strange Music around 2000. A believer in the Japanese business philosophy that the middleman should be cut out, O’Guin built a Strange Music studio and started making all merch in-house.
Travis O’guin and Tech N9ne continue to defy industry rules by ascending onward and upward, as he makes Forbesβ Cash Kings list again. Earning a spot alongside hip hop heavyweights like Diddy, Dr. Dre, Jay Z, Drake, Pharrell and many more, Tech N9ne finds himself as one of hip hopβs top earners.
Sit down with Big Court as he delivers a unique brand of unfiltered content joined by some of the biggest names in entertainment/sports to share their journey and discuss trending topics in the culture. Joined by his daughter Rachel Renee’ and Producer Ken, Holdin Court Podcast brilliantly blends the urban experience with current topics as guests document their life experiences and rise to fame.

One of the best interviews on YouTubeπ€πποΈ
I'm an interview buff and hip hop head ….this is single handedly one of the best interviews I've ever observed
Some times people need a little motivation! Gangster!
Kurt Calhoun was cold man
Top tier interview! I appreciate the view behind the scenes! π₯π₯π₯
STRANGE ALL THE WAY MIDWEST LOVE BABY KING UP INDEPENDENT UNDERGROUND INVESTING IN THERE MEN AND THERE GROWN AND START THERE OWN SHIT KING ISO THE π
Top tier interview.
Tech N9ne helped me get through my time in prison. was able to get this little tablet that we could download music onto and im grateful that tech was on the music choices they had. not all tech but alot of it from around like 2015 and before. went to my little job, banged some tech and right before i got out i remember the album Strange Reign popped up for $20 and i bought that shit so damn fast and banged it on repeat my last few weeks in the joint. ill always tell everyone my favorite artist is Tech N9ne then its Lil Wayne and then the $uicideboy$ and so on.
I got nothing but love for y'all, the J6 spinoff trump spoof had me rolling I hope yall got to see it
Travis is a legend fr I'm glad him and tech made strange great video πππ―

What a great interview!!! THANK YOU TRAVIS And HOLDIN!!
The crib
I remember that club on 7 highway in blue springs he must be my age
Dope interview
Can city in it
I have always been curious about who's Travis really was. I did not expect him to be a straight gangster. Wow. And so calm and collected
Who says there's no such thing as a good, honest, standup music CEO….
Tech and king iso saved my life countless times. Great interview
Tech said it himself that heβs a Klusterfuk. Tech and Travis was the perfect storm in hip hop. Nobody did it better till this day.
TECH COME BACK TO SASKATOON WE LOVE YOU
Beautiful Interview!
Wonderful interview, great questions, good energy and I appreciate you delivering this to the general public. Loved hearing the insight from Travis and I will definitely be checking out other videos on the channel π―
Randomly came across a clip of this interview on my IG feed. Instantly went here to watch the entire thing. Powerful. Always had a giant amount of respect and love for Strange Music and Tech N9ne. Working on 3 albums this year independently been gone 5 years but every obstacle is worth it!! He put in millions before his dream made a profit . You just gotta fight for it!
ive spent my whole childhood and life wondering what the fuck the man behind the scenes is like. the interview ive always wanted thank you
I'd love to work for stange
surprised no talk about king iso
I finally got a chance to sit down and watch this episode….π―
A great interview.
Great interview, I never comment but that 3 piece had me cryingππππ. *it was the delivery*
Tec9ne did the last song with the legendary Roger Troutman RIP Great interview as usual Big Count, I never knew about Travis
We definitely embraced Kaliko and Im in Chitown
this deserves a million views and likes
Why do I trust this guy more than a lot of people I know…..
Shoutout Northeast High School. Home of the Vikings. Class of 08
I never knew Travis was such a phuckin powerhouse behind the scenes..
This dude is a machine whoβs never known an off switch.
Tech is truly the underground artist that never shouldβve made it, and Travis is the millionaire that willed this label into existence.
As much work as Tech put into pushing his music forward,
Travis put into shaping a label around him.
I thought he was just the money,
But he is EVERYTHING other than the music..
JESUS..
As a fan that puts Mr Mann in the highest regard , i havent nor will dig, but this cat seems straight professional. Sad they parted. Hope there's no beef or smoke
EDIT – 53:40 "fuck boi" real and uncensored?!
I was sticking around for the BLH interaction talk, but damn!
I havent got to the end yet, any Mac Lethal?
didn't know who Travis o guin was till I seen the new king iso music video. This was a very good interview.
Always had a delusional thought on Travis, but you can hear the truth in his voice as he explains why he believed in Tech, Strange, and KCMO. Cool to see he just wanted Tech to be a proper businessman, and allow him to be the Rapper he always wanted to be while Travis took care of the business.
π
Thank you for picking Trav's brain, it's a rare opportunity and you handled that opportunity like a boss!
1:50:59 I love how Trav is able to not regret artists he's passed up, from this interview, you can really tell that Trav cares about people as people, and unlike most people in positions like his, he treats and thinks about people as people, and not just cash cows. It's truly admirable, this interview just set Trav at the top of my list of role models
After this interview I've just gotta say, man I would pay just to sit in on more conversations with Trav, what a wellspring of wisdom
Me and Trav would go CRAZY if I ever got to do something with him π₯π€
I like kutt calhoun
One of the best interviews. Love when Travis actually does interviews. He stays dropping game for people
